Abstract

Titanium is commonly used in dental implantology because of high biocompatibility and corrosion resistance in a physical environment. Many reasons for implant failure have been reported in the literature. However, metal sensitivity to titanium was usually not considered as a cause of the implant failure. A few papers on the allergic reactions after titanium implant installation were reported. It is still careful to consider the hypersensitivity to titanium is the main cause of the implant failure because it is difficult of exclude other reasons related with implant failure. In this review, hypersensitivity to metal esp. titanium will be considered as a cause of implant failure with literature reviews.
